Gazelle - International Standards
Introduction
KSM have decided to assess the KSM Gazelles against the EU Recreational Craft Directive (RCD) for reason of providing owners with an additional means of assessing the vessels manufacture and design. Of course the main means of doing this should be the reputation of the designer, the reputation of the design and confidence in the builder, however these additional forms of assessment can be helpful.
In this assessment the KSM Gazelles have been assessed against the requirements for Boat Design Category A "Ocean" vessels:
"Designed for extended voyages where conditions may exceed wind force 8 (Beaufort scale) and significant wave heights of 4 m and above, and vessels largely self-sufficient."
The Essential Safety Requirements (ESR) of the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD) and corresponding accepted standard ("Harmonised Standard") are shown below. Where an equivalent standard (accepted as such by the inspecting Notified Body) has been substituted for the Harmonised Standard this is shown in brackets after the Harmonised Standard. Harmonised Standards that are "grayed out" are not applicable to KSM Gazelles - this could be as a result of vessel size, design category or simply because the standard applies to components or design features that are not part of the KSM Gazelles. This is an ongoing work.
The list of ESR's is taken from
